The sound of the viola is something special - rarely heard in solo concert, it reminds us of the color of a human voice, through which we may experience Arnold Schönberg’s Vier Lieder op. 2 anew. Johannes Brahms’ intimate and melancholy Violin Sonata, arranged for viola, also seems made for the instrument. George Enescu’s dreamy and lively concert piece proves that the viola can also perform virtuosically.
